1993 Chevy Lumina Easy fix for a pro

I just bought a 93 chevy lumina and when I bought it the car wouldnt go into gear, the guy did something under the hood with the shifter connection I dont know how he did it, can anyone explain how to connect the shifter under the hood? Thanks alot.
