'91 Lumina ran outta gas. Gas can restarted and made it two blocks to home. Restarted and made it 1 block and sounded out again. Put in 1 gallon at station and wouldn't restart. Let sit 30 min. Added 2 gallons more and it started for 3 minutes and ran down again. Put $10 more in and still wouldn't restart. Next day started for 30 seconds and ran down. It has spark. Can the fuel pump fail that fast or could it be the fuel filter.

Lets replace the fuel filter and then check the fuel pressure if its within specification-coule also be the fuel pick-up screen in the fuel tank clogged up-

Shot in the dark but a massive vacuum leak can make it run super rich as well. Just something else to check while you're diagnosing.
