Engine Mechanical problem
1991 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic unknow miles

I was wondering how to correctly remove and then put back on the air intake on top of the engine so as to get to the distributor drive port to replace the O-ring seal? Hubby tried to remove it but it got dark, so he put it back on, now the car idles rough and can't decide which gear to be in when accelerating. I think it's a vacuum leak from being put back on improperly.

Are you refering to the intake manifold or the air intake from the air filter? If it's the air intake from the air filter, make sure he reconnected the mass air flow sensor.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for responding so quickly!

He took both off. He says he did reconnect it.

Hi:
Check for vacuum leaks. He may have left something disconnected. A vacuum leak can cause a rough idle.

I appreciate you getting back to me, even though I haven't done the same. The problem was a broken vacuum line on the top of the intake at the throttle body.

Hi:
I know what it is like to be busy, so please don't worry about it. I'm glad it's fixed. I had a feeling it was a vacuum leak.

If you have questions in the future, you know where we are.

Take care,
Joe
