I'm trying to replace the front end seal of the crankshaft on a '92 Dodge Dakota with a 4cyl. OHC engine. My only problem so far is that I can't get the crankshaft sprocket off. I have a puller, but the sprocket has 5 holes so it won't align and there is nothing for it to push against (since the sprocket covers the end except for the bolt hole). I thought about partially screwing in the center bolt to push against that but that would still leave the matter of the puller not aligning. I would really appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thanks.

Suggested Repair

Use a special puller designed to remove the crankshaft sprocket.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1992 Dodge Dakota with a 4-cylinder OHC engine cannot remove the crankshaft sprocket to replace the front crankshaft seal. A standard puller will not align with the sprocket's five holes and has nothing to push against. The expert advises that a special puller is required.
