I bhought my 02 Bmw 318i in August last and since then have some problems with it cutting out at road jucntions when coming to a stop after going down through the gears, having it seen to at the moment have been told it could be the crankshaft sensor?

I have also been reading some of the car reviews on this model and have found it can be a problematic car for what is supposed to be the ultimate driving machine, some of the smaller problems i have encountered is the interior mouldings creaking whilst driving and not neccessarily on rough surfaces.

If anyone has encountered the above can they tell me how they rectified the problems

Thanks :?:

First scan the PCM for trouble codes using a hand held scanner, Then repair codes by replacing failed sensor as needed. If no codes are present, try replacing the idle air contol motor

Suggested Repair

Scan the PCM for trouble codes with a handheld scanner and replace any failed sensor indicated by the codes. If no codes are present, replace the idle air control motor.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 2002 BMW 318i reports the engine cutting out at junctions when stopping after downshifting and was told it might be the crankshaft sensor. They also mention creaking interior mouldings. The expert advises scanning the PCM for trouble codes and replacing any failed sensor indicated, or replacing the idle air control motor if no codes are present.
