I have a 2000 Chevy Impala with about 125,000 miles. I have been having a problem for a while now that when I am accelerating, or going up a hill, the engine makes a rattling noise. I think I have read that this may be called pinking? Anyway, someone told me it is the pistons and it is because I am using bad quality gas. However, have tried every kind of gas, and always use "premium". Lately, I only use Shell Premium, but still the same problem. I have taken it to a mechanic a couple times, but no one seems to be able to fix it. It certainly seems like it gets worse the longer the car has been running, and seems to lack power as the rattling noise gets louder.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.
