Try replacing the Engine Crankshaft Position Sensor.
This senses the crankshaft position for the ignition module. It is located under the ignition module and straddles the crankshaft pulley.
I had this same problem with my 2000 Chevy Impala and once the sensor was replaced the problem went away and hasn't returned.
I performed an inspection of the removed sensor and the only visual problem was magnitized material built up in one of the grooves. I suspect that the material built up until it made contact with the pulley
and the engine shut down almost like grounding out the spark plug on a lawn mower.
