1987 Chevy Corvette parking brake

1987 Chevy Corvette Two Wheel Drive 60000 miles

hello, I have a parking brake issue. The handle will go up with usual force and the rear cables do seem to move and engage the parking brake, but the handle flops back to the ground. The brake remains engaged until the center button on the handle is pressed in, but why won't the handle stay in the upright position?

Hi jen , i have a 89 and mine had the same prob. there is a ratcheting device that controls that .parts and labor about 3 bills to repair this prob.hope this helps billymac
