How do you change a thermostat on a 2005 Cavalier with an automatic transmission? I understand the exhaust needs to be removed but HOW is that done? Do I need special tools? Jacks? Other special equipment? Why is this such a difficult job? Can this job be done in my driveway with everyday tools? I have no garage to work in.
Please help

Hi,

In general, replacing a thermostat is usually a very simple job. However, on this vehicle, it is a bit more difficult if you have an automatic transmission, and you do.

The exhaust manifold needs to be removed to access it. If you look at the attached pics below, they provide the directions for replacement. I will also add the directions for removing the manifold.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
