The heater was giving off a horrid smell (a burning) then the blower motor wouldn't shut off when the car was off - we turned the switch to off and it did shut off - then we started the car and nothing came on with the blower. Changed the regulator switch and the 10v fuse - the 10v fuse blew right away - up'ed to 20v fuse and it works, however - it still doesn't shut off until you hit the rear defrost button - checked the wires to the blower motor and the light comes on - where do we go next?

1) Why would it not shut off unless we turn off the REAR defrost

2) What was the possible smell

3) If not the wiring - what else could it be?

I wouldn't use a 20 amp fuse on that circuit. The 10 amp hvac fuse, that circuit is ignition feed, goes hot when you turn on the key, no voltage with the key off. You can check fuse circuit with test lite, among others that is feed for the coil side of the blower relay, in power distribution center, shouldn't be any feed, with the key off. That feed does go through the hvac controls.

You can unplug the relay, with everything turned off, see how many terminals have voltage? You could also check for continuity between the terminals for the switch side of relay, if there is continuity between these terminals on the relay itself, the relay is faulty. I don't know if a new relay would stop the fuse from blowing?

As far as blowing the fuse, it might be a short to ground on that circuit.
