1998 Chevy Cavalier CV joint problems

My 98 Cavalier broke the passenger side cv joint. It was replaced with a remanufactured drive axel unit, which thru off the band on the inner boot. I replaced it with a new unit. Could there be a problem in the transmission causing this problem before I test the new unit?
