Hi am very happy for finding this site.
Am riding down the road and my car shout off I see the gas gauge is on half tank so I think is something else, topped off the gas cap, a lot of air comes out the tank so am like ok am out of gas put $12 in it my gas jug and it turns on so I swing by the gas station and pump until fill but its stops at $15. For my understanding thats $27 so you mean filling up My V8 305 car takes $27 to fill up and when it stopped it marked full. Put a Gumout fuel system cleaner in it but nothing change I want to know is it my fuel pump, tank, floater, Fuel filter or something else?
Cause am at the gas station everything other day.
the owner before me did say he change the fuel pump him self

If issue with fuel level gage, check the sending unit in the tank. Look for the electrical connector at the fuel tank, how many wires? If two and they are pink and black, pink is voltage, black is ground. Have helper watch the dash gage. You take connector loose, use jumper wire between pink and black wire, the gage should read empty. Then, use 90 ohm resistor with jumper wire between pink and black wire, the gage should read full. You can get resistors at radioshack, they don't cost much.

If the gage on the dash reacts properly, then I think the problem is the sending unit in the tank.
