When I try to crank my car, it will crank but you have to give it a little gas to keep it started, and if you don't it will shut right back off, but will still crank again if you try, and it drives good, but why does it do this?

Once you've gotten the car started, does it run fine and idle smoothly?

If so, then that's your fuel pressure regulator. When your car sits for awhile, the bad regulator is bleeding it's fuel back to the tank. So when you go to start it, it'll take several cranks to get the fuel pumped back to the engine.
