I'm in the process of making my 94 camaro v6's engine stable enough to use day to day. I know it's an old high-mileage vehicle but my family and I need it. I've changed out the spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel pump/fuel filter, air filter, all fuses, complete brake overhaul, new battery. My car idles rough and has a strong fuel smell. When accelerating from idle (or a red light/stop sign etc) it stumbles bad until im about 20mph or higher. I've been trying to do things on my own for a myriad of reasons but am drawing up blank on this one! My guess would be to replace the IAC valve and TPS and O2 sensors but are any of those the culprit? A local mechanic said he thinks I have a bad cylinder.I cant afford to fix something that wasnt broke to begin with and would appreciate any help!

Ok what we need to do here first is do a compression test to eliminate the engine being the cause. Then I would like to have you check the fuel pressure. You say you are getting a fuel smell the only way to see what is really happening is to do this so we can have the hard facts to move forward from here. Let me know what you find and we will g from there. What V6 does you car have?

It's the 3.4L V6 engine. How would fuel pressure be the case if I just had the entire fuel system replaced except the fuel injectors? I will schedule a compression check as recommended and send you guys the results. I appreciate the help!

OK the fuel pressure test is to rule out any bad parts one and to make sure the fuel pressure regulator is working correctly too. If this is all good then we will check the TPS to make sure this is working correctly all that is needed to test this is a digital multi meter so when you are ready to do this let me know and get back to me with other info as soon as you have it. Can you rent a compression tester and do this yourself?

Alrighty.I went ahead and replaced my TPS and IAC valve on my 94 camaro v6. Acceleration performance has been greatly improved BUT still idles rough. Just not as bad. I had the compression test done and everything checked out fine but havent gotten to the fuel pressure test yet. I dont see any other possible causes other than faulty fuel injectors. I nolonger have a strong fuel smell either. Argh lol I'm a rookie at this but after it's all said and done i'll at least know my way around 90's model camaros! Thanks for all the help and I'll continue to contribute to your guys website. It's been a tremendous help to myself and i'm sure countless others.

Ok you say it still idles rough? So if you would get a can of mass air flow cleaner and pull the mass air flow cleaner off and spray the inside of it out and the put it back and see how if that will help. Should look something like the pic below.
