I have a 2000 Blazer 4.3 Liter Vortex. It was running great, then for no reason and with no lights coming on and no strange noises it just shut off and we haven't been able to start it since, unless we put fuel in the throttle body, then it will start and run for just a sec until the gas burns out. We have changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, camshaft positioning sensor, distributor cap & rotor and still it won't start. We scanned it and there are no codes coming up. Please help, I can't afford to put it in the shop and I hate to just keep wasting money on parts we don't need !!
Thanks,
Rachel

Did you check for power at the fuel pump? When you turn the key to on, the pump should run for 2-3 seconds, does it? If not, check fuses under the hood and in the cab, also check the fuel pump relay,

If you can hear the fuel pump run in the tank I would check for spark because it sounds like a crankshaft angle sensor has failed.

Please run down this guide and report back

Hello, I was driving home from work and got on to the highway ramp. I put my foot on the gas and got up to about 60mph. When I put my foot back down on the gas I would not accelerate. My car slowly was coming to a stop and my battery light was blinking. The car was making a "goo-goo, goo-goo" sound as it was slowing down with a slight vibration feeling. I put my car in park and started it back up and moved probably 30 feet and the car completely died in a busy intersection during rush hour.

A jump would not start it back up, so I got it towed back to my house. Today a family friend who works on my car from time to time said it was my alternator. I bought a new alternator, and battery. The car still will not start.

He now thinks it is the fuel pump but I can hear the pump coming on. Can anyone please help me??????

Don't let him replace parts unless he is sure. Otherwise you'll end up with a lot of money into the vehicle and it still won't go.

Before replacing the fuel pump, have him check fuel pump pressure. That way we'll know if the pump is producing. Also, I need to know if you are getting spark to the engine.

If you have starting fluid, see if it will start with it. If it starts for a few seconds and then dies, that would mean it is getting spark but no fuel.

Let me know what you find.

It was running fine, then it started to slow down on the highway, I got it turned to a side road and it coasted to a stop. When I tried to start it, it acts like it wants to start but just won't catch. could it be the fuel pump?

This sounds like a fuel pump or the crankshaft angle sensor has gone out. When you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?

Engine Performance problem
2000 Chevy Blazer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

2000 Chevy Blazer, 4.3L, Shut down on the expressway. I've replaced the plugs, cap and rotor. Pressure tested the fuel pump and it registered 62lb pressure when I turn on the ignition 50lb while trying to start it. I have spark. Sprayed starting fluid and poured gas straight in, still will not start. It just turns over. Battery is new also. Please help! Thank you! Bart.

So what all have you checked at this point? How old is the fuel filter? What color is the spark at the plugs? If you can unplug one of the plug wires from the plug and put a screw driver in the end and put it near metal ie: valve cover and let me know what color the spark is. Get back to me and we will go from there.

Well if spark is blue and you have fuel then this thing should run. Now does it sputter at all like it wants to start? I would replace the fuel filter for maintance reason's not saying it will fix your no start. So what we need to know is weather or not the injectors are opening. Is the check engine light on? Can you get a scan for codes? Do you have or can you get an injector noid light? If your injectors do not get the signal to open then you have no fuel in the cylinder and therefore no start. Get back to me and we will go from there.

Thank you for getting back to me. I do not have any of the tools you asked about but I will try to locate them. The truck doesen't even sound like it wants to start. No sputter or backfire. I plan to replace the fuel filter, but like you, I tend to believe the problem lies somewhere else. The check engine light is on but isn't it on at start up anyway and goes out when it starts, unless there is a problem. Is there a way to extract the codes, if so, let me know and I will get them. I know on some cars you turn the ignition switch on and aff a few times and count the flashes of one of the lights on the dash, but I dont know how to do that on this particulat vehicle. As for the injectors, I poured fuel and starter fluid directly in the carb, shouldn't I have gotten some sign of wanting to start? I will ask around about the injector tester light and see if I can borrow one. Thanks! Bart.

Ok the only way to see if there is any codes is with a scanner sorry. As for the noid or injector test light if you get one get back to me and we will go through the test to see if the injectors are opening. You are sure you have spark right? Thanks

I am sure about the spark. I checked one plug wire on each side, screwdriver in the boot and held the screwdriver close to whatever metal I could reach on each side and turned it over and I got spark. Should I pull a plug and check for spark at the plug? The plugs are new. I'll be glad to check again. I started out with a full head of hair, I'm down to just a few strands now.

Well with that said you must not be getting fuel to the cylinder. So if you would pull one or two of the easiest plugs and just make sure they are dry and not wet if you would. Do you smell gas at all when you crank it over? Have been able to get a noid light to make sure the injectors are getting the signal to open? Get back to me with what you find.

When I start my car it takes time to start up but it starts up. When the car is in park or crusing about till 35 to 40 it shakes alot bad. But when it gets above 40 the service check engine light doesnt go off but starts to blink. When I accelerate it lacks alot of power. What should I do? Or check?

First thing you need to do is have the codes read, Autozone does it free, Post the results with the code number(s). Even if the service engine light is not on, there should be freeze frame data stored.
If it won't make it to Autozone, buy a cheap scanner, they can be had for 30-40 dollars, a good investment, since they cover all cars sold in the USA from 96 on...
If the light is blinking, it means possible damage to the converter...service it right away!

My blazer will not start. It turns over fine so I don't think it is the battery. It seems like it is not getting any fuel to the engine. This has happened several times in the last 2 weeks. Sometimes there is no problem but other days there is. Even if it doesn't start in the morining, later that day when I go to try it starts right up. I'm lost.

i would start by cleaning the throttle body and throttle position sensor if you havent done that ....it should be done every so often about 30000 miles or so no money needed the gasket on the underside of body is silicon so no need to worry about damageing it just dont get dirt into intake when it is removed....you can google on how to clean it. it takes about an hour or so if you are car savy............

Engine cranking, do you have spark at the plugs? Use a gage and check fuel pressure. Some of the national brand autostores used to loan fuel pressure gages. You can call and ask.

The fuel poppets may need cleaning, probably the best cleaning procedure is a shop procedure. Injector cleaner in the gas tank, may not help anything. If that is the problem.

Hi I have a 2000 chevrolet Blazer that wont start on its own. One day I wasnt able to start it after work and had to be jumped and since then it wont start on its own. After it is jump started and it runs for about half an hour i will be able to start it once but not if it is cold outside. To try to fix the problem I have changed the starter, battery, fuel filter, cables to the battery and had the alternator tested. They said it was ok and it was putting out enough power. I can hear the fuel pump working when I first turn the car on so Im not sure what it could be after that. I have also opened the distributor box to see if anything was loose or wet but no dice. I also checked all of the spark plugs.

It sounds like a lazy fuel pump. Check to make sure the fuel pressure is within spec. I have seen them (often) where they will run the vehicle fine, but refuse to build enough pressure to start the engine.

Could very well be a weak pump. Regardless, to find the problem you will need to put a manual fuel pressure gauge on it to see what it has . Should be 60-66 psi if anything less it needs to be replaced, I strongly suggest an OE part (A/C Delco)

I have a 2000 chevy blazer with 141000 miles i replaced the fuel pump about a year and a half ago. in the last couple of weeks i have had to turn the key on and off about 6 times to get it to start. I hear the fuel pump running. I tested the fuel pressure with a guage before i hooked the guage up I tried to bleed the pressure off of the line no fuel present. When I turned the key on I showed about 20psi. when I finally got the pressure up to 60 psi it started. the pressure dropped about 7 psi. when I shut the motor off the pressure imeddiatly dropped to about 2 psi. Shouldn't the system hold some pressure. I'm hopeing it's not the fuel pump again. Could it be the fuel pressure regulator? by the way it is 4 wheel drive and has the 4.3 motor. thanks Jim

I have a 2000 chevy blazer that won't start when it is cold. My husband puts starter fluid on the throttle body to get it to start. once it is started, it runs fine. He has replaced the IAC valve, IAT sensor, did a tune up and to no avail, still wont start. Any suggestions as to what could be the problem? My husband also hooked up the diagnostic tool to my blazer and no error codes were reported.

try this next time it is cold:
Turn the key to the on position for 5 secends, then turn it off for 3 seconds. Repeat this 3-4 times and then crank it. If it starts, I would be suspicious of the pump allowing fuel to drain back into the tank.

Ok, chevy blazer, checked all obvious stuff such as fuses etc. good fuel pressure (replaced the pump and filter) it has good pressure at the schrader valve, good spark (just installed plugs, wires, cap, rotor), replaced computer with a used one, coil, crank sensor. the truck wouldnt start, you spray it with carb cleaner and it would run fine. but it wouldnt start without carb cleaner. drove it a few days like that, now it wont start at all. it spudders once or twice but just cranks and no start. spray starting fluid in it and still nothing. the multifunction switch in the column shorted out it started smoking right before this happend and we replaced that i dont know why that would affect it not running. any helps appriciated thanks

When you say good fuel pressure, I need the actual spec. Use a noid lite and check for injector pulse. Any applicable trouble codes? To check for codes, at the least you need an obd2 code reader. Last but not least, your security system could be causing an issue, passlock.

Here is the relearn procedure for the Passlock system. if this doesn't work, that means it has a hard failure and you will need a Tech2 scan tool to diagnose it. The most common failure is the sensor in the ignition switch and i can give you a way to bypass that if you wish but the rest of the system has to work.

Attempt to start the car.It will stall don't turn the ignition off.Leave the ignition on for ten minutes or until the theft light goes out.Turn the key off for ten seconds then attempt to start the car.If it now runs you have been successful

going to try that, also there was an aftermarket alarm installed that we cut out while we were doing the multifunction switch that was wired into the multifunction switch wires near the connector alongside the column. i dont think that has anything to do with it though because theres no keyfob for the alarm and it hasnt been used, we didnt know it was even in there till i pulled the wires out from under the dash.

I have a 2000 Blazer and about a week ago I went to the store and came home, thought I forgot something and was going to head back there and car wouldn't start. Got a new battery, sounds now like it want's to start but not enough power? Also when it was running I wouldn't be able to get up to speed once in a while and I knew that was a problem because my Service Engine light has been turning on and off for the past year. Any ideas? From what I've been reading it could be a number of things!

It could be a number of things. If the check engine light has been coming on, there should be a trouble code stored in the computer. You need a scanner to check it.

As of now, have you checked to see if you are getting fuel and spark to the engine? Also, is there a nationally recognized parts store near you? If so, call and ask if they will lend or rent a scanner to you so you can check for codes.

Finally, have you tried starting the vehicle with starting fluid? If so, describe what happened.

Let me know.

That would have been for flashing the lights. Just make sure that and wires that were interrupted to go through the alarm get spliced back together after it's removed.

Changed fuel pump two years ago (pump only) . Recently trouble starting. If you waited it would start after about 10 minutes. Now it started stalling while driving, then won't start at all. If you let it sit for a day it start then do the same thing again a few days later. You can hear the fuel pump go on buy won't fire.
