Electrical problem
1998 Chevy Blazer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I cant start my 1998 Chevy Blazer. It will try to start, but it will not catch. I believe there is a problem with fuel getting to the engine. I had to have the fuel pump replaced a couple of years ago and it cost about a grand (500 for the pump and 500 in labor). I would rather not do that again if I can help it. What are my options? First, I do not know if the relay is good or bad. How do I check this? Second, if it is the fuel pump, is this something that I can reasonably do myself in my drive way?

Ok first lets test the fuel pump oil pressure switch (back up circuit for the pump). To do this start the engine. With engine running remove the fuel pump relay we discussed earlier. If the engine stalls with the relay removed then your fuel pump oil pressure switch is faulty. If it continues to run then we can move on to testing the pump itself. Let me know if we need to test that pump out

Okay, have a helper try starting the vehicle while you (or visa versa) knock on the fuel tank to jar the pump. If it starts up then you know pump is bad. This is a easy test to do without all the expensive gadgets ;)

My fiancée took my blazer to the bus stop to get our kids. She could not get it started back up. With the fuel pump connected to the vehicle, you can't here it kick on when you turn on the key. So I tried changing the pump and it didn't work. I hooked my original fuel pump to my 12 volt battery and it kicked on. I have also checked the relay (I had a friend show me where it was so I am not sure he was right). I am not sure where the fuse is. The wiring harness was broken by the previous owner but not fixed right so there was some corrosion. I cut off the corrosion and reattached it. Still didn't work. So where can I go next?

Is your gas tank steel or plastic? Have you checked for 12 volts and ground at the connector at the tank? You'll need a helper to check for 12 volts. You should only see it for one second after turning on the ignition switch. A test light is much more accurate for this than a voltmeter. If you don't have a helper, remove the fuel pump relay and bypass it, then you should have 12 volts back there all the time.

I have replaced my fuel pump but it not whurring when I turn on the key. Where is the fuel pump relay on this model. It not on the pass side firewall nor behind the glove box. On the fuse box is one power relay and that one is good. There seams to be no power to the the pump.

All you got is 2secs to check for power before the fuel pump relay de-energizes then you lose power to the pump.

The computer energizes the fuel pump relay. Did you check the fuel pump fuse?

Just replaced fuel pump resently but my fuel gage is still not working right, when the gas pedal was pressed and exceeds about 40 mph, or say gets a little warm. The needle on the gauge goes all the way down the full gas, way way down, I was thinkin if it is related to a some relay. And where it is located.

No, the sender is most likely the issue. Did you replace the entire module or just the pump?

It was a entire module, airtec brand. Did some wiring in it because the connector that comes with it is a inline, the old one is square. It got purple, gray and two black wires.
