Problem seems to be in transfer case. When I start from a dead stop in drive in (2) wheel drive. A humming sound starts coming from right front, as if it were a ring gear about to engage. My electric switch in the dash appears to be working properly. When transferring from (2-to-4) or vice-versa it works o.K. Just can't figure what is causing it to act as if it were about to transfer on it's own?

Does the sound stay with you all of the time in 2wd? Does it go away in 4wd? Are you sure you are out of 4wd?

WHEN STARTING FROM A COLD START IN (2) WHEEL DRIVE IT'S FINE. PERHAPS 5-6 MILES LATER. IT'LL START MAKING SOUND. AS IF IT'S TRYING TO INGAGE BY ITSELF. VERY LOUD HUMMING SOUND. THEN IF I TRANSFER IT INTO (4) WHEEL DRIVE WITH THE SWITCH. IT'LL GO IN O.K. AND THE NOISE STOPS IMMEDIATELY. THEN I'LL PUT IT BACK IN (2) WHEEL MODE, AND IT COULD BE ALRIGHT. BUT NOT ALWAYS, SOMETIMES THE NOISE WILL BEGIN RIGHT AWAY.

Hi:
It sounds like there is a bad vacuum hose to the front axle allowing the 4wd to float around. Check to see if anything is disconnected or damaged.
