Engine problem
1995 Chevy Blazer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 80K miles

I started to hear a knocking nosie coming from my engine like a week ago and it seems to be getting worst by the day. I've always maintained the car properly with oild changes etc. The knocking noise is loud, almost as if I was driving without a muffler. Also, when I turn the heat on it smells like burning rubber. What could this be, and can I drive around with it like this? If it is my engine going bad? Is it even worth repairing? I've asked around and I get people telling me it could be the rod & bearings?

Please advise, thank you.

Sounds like a spark plug may have fallen out.

I do appreciate your quick response! I just hate being under pressure now to buy a new car. Does it cost a lot to replace a spark plug? Also, how can someone tell me that engine is shot and that my rod and bearings are the calpruit just by listening to the noise its making. I did take it to a mechanic and this is waht I was told, and he advised me to get rid of the car and buy a new one. Would you recommend that I take it to a repair shop that has a diagnostic machine before I go out ane buy a new car?

If he looked at it and said it was a rod bearing then you would have to replace the engine. Try getting another opinion before condemning it. Any good mechanic should be able to tell just by listening to it.
