My beretta will overheat and air blowing out is ice-cold, all of a sudden thermostat needle drops to normal operating temps and resumes blowing warmer air, than all of a sudden repeat and cold air. It will do this every 2-4 minutes, but I have already stopped driving it. I've already changed thermostat, still not fixed. My next idea is water pump, but I have asked around and i'm hearing blown head gasket or heater core. The coolant doesnt leak, just it bubbles over from over-heating. If its blown head gasket, is it possible to sell car in this working condition?

Im thinking you should verify the coolant level by removing the radiator cap and filling up the rim.

I am having almost the exact same problem with my 1998 Lumina (172000mi). Engine overheats sporadically. Overheating is always associated with frigid cold air from the heater. No coolant leak, but the coolant backs up into the reservoir significantly from the overheating.

I have changed the thermostat, flushed the system, and bled all air out - no improvement. Does anyone have any ideas?
