2003 Chevy Avalanche spare tire removal

tried to lower spare tire and followed all instruction per manual. slight drop and than only cable comes down

This is going to be a good challenge
what happen is that the safety lock is stuck and most likely rusted and not releasing to allow the tire down
use WD40 or any available penetrating oil and spray the inside the middle

best if you can have it on a lift and use a long flat head screw driver to help releasing the safety

Where is the screwdriver placed. soaked numerous times with wd-40, liquid wrench and still no luck

i will try to get a picture for you
hope to make it clearer as to what i meant
mean while continue to spray it and use a hammer and tap on the piece of metal that holding the tire up

(center of the tire )
