I have a 2002 avalanch and cant seem to find the problem. When I start the truck I dont get any gauges, I dont have any first or fourths gear. The problem has gotten worse, I used to be able to restart and the problem went away. If I manually put the car into second it will go in second and I can shift to third.. The gauges will come back but I still am stuck in third gear. And sometimes it runs perfect. Any answers

Check your battery and ground connections. Your battery may be in poor shape causing this. If it doesn't straighten out have a trans guy run a scan to see if somehting is wrong with the trans. You may have two seperate problems.
