Take it from a locksmith. This is a normal problem on GM vehicles. There is a small cap in the lock which pops off allowing the tumbler springs to push the cap out and bind the key and switch. We replace with a new lock.A locksmith with experience should be able to install a new switch in the column for around $100.00. Don't freak out when he removes the steering wheel, blinker light module and a bunch of other parts to gain access to the lock retainer pin.I've done about 2000 of these in the past 10 years. It also happens on the new 10 cut gm ignitions.
