The charging system failure warning is on. The car has to be jump started to crank but won't charge even though the gauge shows 14.5 V +/- while the engine is running. If I turn the engine off after driving for about 30 minutes and immediately try to restart it. It is already drained. When it's running and I disconnect the battery cable it stays running. I've checked the cables and connections. What could it be?

Good afternoon,

The gauge is not accurate at all. You need a voltmeter at the battery to confirm the voltage.

Never, ever take off a battery cable while the engine is running. If the alternator was a suspect, it is now bad. Then the engine will run until the voltage drops down as you need battery voltage for the alternator to work.

Replace the alternator.
