While driving my check charging system light came on. I believe it is the alternator, is it safe to drive?

Hello,
You will not go very far driving if the alternator is not working since it provides electric to the vehicle. Without it your running strictly off the battery and once it get to low to run things it will start dying out, loosing power spitting and sputtering etc.
You need to have it check as soon as possible.
