Good evening.

The first thing I would do is charge the battery. After it is charged, load test it with a voltmeter. You should have 12.6 volts.

Then start the engine and check the charge rate. It sounds like you have a charging system issue.

The first thing is to determine the actual failure. Once that is determined then I can give you a price range.

A diagnostic by a competent shop should run about $25.00.

Seeing as this is a hybrid, you cant just jump start it, it has a 12 volt, 36 volt and 300 volt system. The systems on a hybrid are different you need a tech 2 and a battery charger, you will need to activate the jump assist.A severely depleted hybrid drive motor battery may not have sufficient energy needed to crank/start the engine. In this case a scan tool may be used to place the accessory power module (APM) in a special operating mode called Jump Assist. The Jump Assist function allows on vehicle charging of the hybrid drive motor batteries using the 12 volt DC vehicle system.

Operating Functions
In Jump Assist the APM converts the 12 volt DC to high voltage (HV) DC. The high voltage DC can then charge the hybrid drive motor batteries. During this mode of operation the APM and vehicle systems may draw up to 80 amps of current from the vehicles 12 volt DC system. An external 12 volt DC battery charger is required during the Jump Assist mode. In order to guarantee a successful engine start, approximately 20 percent state of charge (SOC) in the hybrid drive motor battery is recommended. Refer to Jump Assist. A successful Jump Assist can be expected to take an extended period of time not less than 20 minutes. Might just want to take it to the dealer.

When I press remote start I can here a click sound as if the truck is about to start and then it will not start. My DIC shows remote start in the on position as checked. What could be causing this not to start? I have previously posted a question on engine hard to start after refueling and could this be related to this issue? Your expertise will highly be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mo-san

Hey MO-SAN,

If the engine starts without the remote start feature then the remote start module is not working, have you checked the fuses in the PDC? if all are good then the module itself sounds like it has failed.

Here is a guide to check the fuse

Let us know what you find

Best, Ken

To my professionals,

Fuses in PDC are good. Found a manual on line for resetting security system, don't know if that's right & gave it a shot, & nothing changed. I'm yet to have it scanned, but will like to know in which part of my electrical components will I find the module & how does it look like. A photo of it will be great / how to replace. Attach is the security manual found.

Thanks,

Mo-san

My solution has been resolved by scanning & getting an error code P0496 for Evap. Replaced Vapor Canister Purge Valve, erase the trouble code & my truck is now back to good working state. My engine hard to start after every refueling / my remote start not working are all related to this Evap issue. The replaced Purge Valve was actually leaking when I blow air through it. Thank you 2carpros & HMAC300 for all the help & advises. Hope my feed back helps others too.

Wont start and nothing in the car that requires power works. The battery still has charge, but we jumped it off just to be sure we think it might be an anti theft. But we dont know and if it is an anti theft then how do we turn it off.

This sounds like the starter is having problems or the battery needs to be load tested these guides can help us fix it.

2005 Tahoe will act like it wants to start, electronically, gauges turn, beeps, ac, radio, etc, but won't crank. Did this once before about a year ago, but waited a few minutes and it started. No luck this time. Suggestions?

It doesn't make any mechanical noise at all. The gauges all move, lights come on, radio, ac, but the engine doesn't respond. Like something electrical is loose. Don't have a multimeter.

So have you have you had the battery tested and made sure the battery cables are clean and tight? Also you will need a multimeter or a test light at the very least to diagnose this. The security light isn't on or flashing is it?

Well, I got it to start by turning the key backward to reset then forward. Started and stopped it three times. Does that sound like it makes sense?
