The ABS and TPS sensors are on in my car so my buddy tried to clear them with his ODB reader and apparently these two notifications have to be cleared by a mechanic. So my friend said that he could clear them with a paper clip, so I let him. Well now my car won't start and the ODB port isn't working either.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Check fuse number 8 in the under hood fuse box. Lets hope he jumped power to ground and blew a fuse. Next, I attached two pics showing the fuse and the connector pins. I need to know which were jumped. The last two pics are of the entire data link connector wiring. I had to break it into two pictures for it to be readable. I did, however, overlap them so you could follow it. When you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?

Check out the diagrams (Below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

My friend said he stuck one side of the paper clip in and didn’t connect the other side. All I know is the ODB port isn’t working and the car act like it wants to start when I turn the key but won’t turn over.

Okay, that may be a good thing but at the same time, doesn't make sense. Why would he only put one side in? Did he see a spark or something the prevented him for continuing? Did you check the fuse I suggested?

Let me know.
Joe

No, I took it to my mechanic and they can’t look at it until Tuesday. What do you think it is?

I still have access to the car so in the morning I’ll go up and change out fuse 8 under the hood and let you know.

Hey man, it worked. I replaced the 8 fuse and it started right up. Now if I disconnect the black connection to my battery for an hour will it reset the computer and make the ABS and TSA notifications go away?

Welcome back:

Thank God. He must have shorted the power pin to ground and nothing other.

Okay, now for the codes, have the repairs already been made related to the codes you found? If they have, here is what I want you to do. Disconnect the battery, negative first and then positive. Take a plastic zip tie and connect the terminals together for at least 10 minutes. That will drain any power from capacitors. If the codes that are set are what I call soft codes, that will delete them. If they aren't, you will need a proper scanner to delete them.

Let me know if that helps.

Take care,
Joe

So it turns out to be the speed sensor and maybe the wheel bearing. If both it’s going to $464.00.

Welcome back:

The wheel speed sensor will most certainly turn the ABS light on. On some vehicles, the sensor is part of the wheel bearing/ hub bearing, but that isn't the case on your vehicle. So, if the wheel bearing isn't making noise or showing a problem, just replace the sensor. If you look at the picture I attached, it shows how the sensor is replaced. It is a simple job. Also, here links showing how to test them as well as how to replace one:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/abs-wheel-speed-sensor-test

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-an-abs-wheel-speed-sensor

Honestly, you could do it yourself and save a few bucks. Also, if you run into trouble, I could help.

Regardless, let me know how things work out for you or if you need anything.

Take care,
Joe

Yep, it was just the speed sensor, I ended up paying $200.00 to have it replaced. Now that I know I can do it myself I’ll definitely try it if it happens to the other three tires. I really appreciate all your help and moving forward I’m going to reach out to you if I have any problems with my car. If I come back to this site three months from now will I get you or is there a chance someone else will answer?
