Car overheated, coolant system leak

My car overheated going down the interstate. The temperature gauge has always worked, but it did not go up when It got hot. I heard a real faint knocking or ticking, it started getting real loud so I pulled over and shut car off, when I raised the hood I noticed there was no coolant in the overflow reservoir. So I filled it with coolant, then tried to start, it would not start. I got to looking and noticed when I was trying to start there was now a pretty good coolant leak where the radiator hose goes into the engine. It looks like it is leaking around one of the bolts. Is there a way to seal this up without taking all the way apart, and would that be what is causing it not to start now?

The temperature gauge will not work if there is no coolant over it, it would have gone up and then dropped down. You probably did not see the temperature spike as it would have been fairly quick. With the engine making knocking noises that is a concern, before doing any repair work on the cooling system, do a compression test to make sure that there is no internal damage done.
