Welcome to 2CarPros. Error on the display usually isn't the theft system. The theft system will be the security light, it will come on and go off while trying to start the engine if it is working, or turn on and stay on if there is a fault in the system or come on and flash if the key isn't recognized. The error message can be caused by a few things, however a dealer level scan tool that can talk to all of the systems is about the only sure way to find which one is causing the problem. I've seen loose connections, low battery, bad ECM, bad BCM and more cause that message. Unfortunately without the scan tool there isn't much that you can do.
