I need some guidance on the tests to run to diagnose. Here are some facts:

1. The key fob works to open the car doors - I believe this is the original key fob from Ford.
2. When I put the key in the ignition, the lights on the dash light up, I turn the key - nothing!
3. I reinsert the key and no lights show up - except the anti-theft security light is blinking. At this point, I have no power, I cannot roll up the windows, etc.
4. The car does not crank at all - nothing happens.
5. I have tried to put the key in the ignition, wait 10-15 minutes with it turned and nothing.
6. I have tested the battery - the battery is good.

If I do the following:
1. Disconnect the battery, wait a few minutes, then re-attach.
2. Put the key in the ignition, I am able to roll up the windows, lights go on the dash, but no crank. Then I go back to the no lights on dash and anti-theft security light continues to blink.

Any ideas on what to do next?

Thank you,
Sharyn

Hi,

It sounds like it isn't recognizing the key. Do you have more than one key? If so, try a different one.

IF there is no change, the next step requires a scan tool that can communicate with the different modules in the vehicle to gain access to the anti-theft system.

Take a look at the attached pic below. I'm not sure what you have as far as scanners but let me know if this is something you can do.

Take care,

Joe

This sounds like a defective key or a transponder module. Basically, what this does when it doesn't start, and the light flashes is the key is not recognized.

So, we need to start with checking for codes because if we have some then that will give us the testing that we need to follow in order to figure this out.

Once we know if there are codes, we will be able to take better action but if there are no codes then most likely the module is the issue because it doesn't know there is an issue. However, the fact that the light flashes and the engine doesn't start means the module is most likely functioning. However, we need to start with this and go from there.

Here is a guide that talks a little bit more about this:

Let us know and we can go from there.

Thanks
