I've replaced the fuel pump fuel filter, and new battery. Car cranks tries to start but won't catch. It broke down on me while driving. The battery light came on and tried to start and it just cranks but no start. Battery is brand new now and still can't get it to start. Any ideas?

Hi,

If it is cranking properly, chances are either you lost spark or fuel to the engine. Here is what I need you to try:

First, see if it starts for a couple of seconds using starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, we know it's a fuel-related issue. If there is no change, then it is likely ignition related.

Here is a link explaining how to check for spark:

Try this and let me know the results.

Take care,

Joe

Checked spark plugs no spark and my coils are corroded. What do I need to buy to replace all of my spark plugs and ignition coils?

Nathan, did this happen all at once? If so, I don't think all the coils would have failed at the same time.

On this vehicle, each cylinder has its own coil pack. So, that means you would need six coil packs and six spark plugs. My concern is that it won't make a difference. Also, to access all coil packs, you need to remove the upper intake manifold.

By chance, do you have a live data scan tool? Or does the vehicle have a tachometer? If you have a scanner, see if there is an RPM signal when cranking the engine. If you don't have one but the car has a tachometer, see if it moves a bit when the engine is cranking.

Let me know.

I did attach the directions for replacing the coil packs. Once they are removed, you will have access to the spark plugs to remove them.

Take care and I'll watch for your reply.

Joe
