I finally pushed it down (extremely hard) but something is very wrong.I took the line off of the slave cylinder(at the bell housing)to see if this would make the pedal easier, but there wasn't any change. Therefore, I suspect the problem is the clutch master cylinder. What do you think the problem is? BOB.

Good afternoon,

Yes, you either have an issue with the clutch master or the linkage inside the car where the pedal moves.

Try lubing the clutch pedal linkage.

Beyond that, I would replace the master, the line and the slave.

Removal

1. Disconnect negative cable at battery.
2. Remove hush panel from under dash.
3. Disconnect push rod from clutch pedal.
4. Disconnect hydraulic line at the master cylinder.
5. Remove the mounting bolts for the master cylinder at front of dash.

Installation

1. Install mounting bolts for master cylinder at front of dash. Torque bolts to specification.
2. Connect hydraulic line at master cylinder.
3. Connect push rod at clutch pedal.
4. Install hush panel.
5. Fill master cylinder with new fluid conforming to Dot 3 or Dot 4.
6. Raise vehicle and bleed air from system at slave cylinder as previously outlined.
7. Lower vehicle.
