Your first step should be to check your transmission fluid. Your owner's manual should give you detailed information including where to locate the fluid dipstick, as well as what fluid to add and how much. If there are puddles of reddish fluid under the car, your transmission is leaking and will need to be addressed by qualified mechanic. Next question: Is your check engine light illuminated? Could be an electronic component fouling up. If the light is illuminated, turn the car off and disconnect the battery for about thirty minutes. Reconnect the battery, start the car, and attempt to drive the car again. And finally, Does the car feel like maybe the brakes are locked up, or does it roll freely? Locked up brakes will prevent the car from moving. Hope this helps!

Hello William, thank you for the quick response. I cannot locate the dipstick for transmission fluid nor a place to refill. The manual does not guide on these either. Please if you have some idea about where to look shout.

Thanks in advance.

Unluckily for you, your car has the maintenance-free transmission. This means that it is a sealed unit, there is really no user-serviceable parts in it. So in order to solve your issue, you will have to tow the car to a mechanic or VW dealership. There is a fluid level check plug, but in order to access it, the car needs to be raised by a lift. Wish I could give better news!

Thank you very much. I have since taken it to an Auto Mechanic and indeed the place where the fluid is refilled is not accessible by laymen. They discovered a leak and we are waiting for Monday to buy the right fluid from VW dealership

The replenishment of transmission oil has not resolved the problem but there is no leakage. What could it be now?

We should run the codes to see what comes up it. Sounds like you have a turbine shaft speed sensor that has gone out. Here is a guide to help us:

Please run down this guide and report back.

Hi Ken, please note that after the technician diagnosed the problem, he says the pump for the transmission fluid is dead/malfunctioning. Is this a likely cause? If yes, what is the next step in this case? They are suggesting replacement of the gearbox because a pump is not sold separately. On the one hand, another person is of the view that DSG gearbox are not problematic, they cannot pack-up easily.

Hmm, has anyone looked at the CV axles, I have seen them break at the CV joint and just spin not moving the car. I would jack the front of the car up so you can see each axle. Have a helper start the engine and put their foot on the brake and put it in gear the axles should not move if so the one moving is broken. Were there any codes when they scanned it? If not it sounds like the transmission needs to come out. I would try to find a used one. Here is a video that shows the process of removing the transmission on a similar car. (the process is the same)

Hello,

The problem was resolved by replacing the DSG Mechatronic Unit. Apparently it had cracked/worn out thereby leaking gearbox/transmission oil/fluid.

I have now encountered a new problem, "Error Stabilisation Control", this has resulted in gear lever not shifting from Park (P). Now the car displays the steering wheel error and engine light (see attached).

There is what the DSG Mechatronic Unit looks like in the image (below). Glad you got it fixed. Please post your new question here, you must be logged in.
