Can I use a starter from a 1986 4L in a 1995 3L?

The starter from a 1986 Ford with a 4.0L engine may not be directly compatible with a 1995 Ford Ranger with a 3.0L engine but if they look the same then yes, I would install it. Here is how the job is done:
