I was recieving a coolant level low warning so I added some water and the temp does not seem to be going down is this a problem

Yes, overheating it too much will cause headgasket problems, if its not allready there
have it pressure tested and checked for leaks, change the thermostat, ck the front fans, ck the water pump and its belt and tensioner, its on the front head drivers side, if all this is ok then you have headgasket problems
