I have a 1981 Deville, 6.0 Liter V8 with 100K since complete overhaul, and 275K total miles. Lately it is sometimes hard to start. Good starter, turns over well, but it seems like no fire. Usually happens when engine has cooled for 3 hours or more, but a couple fo times it has stalled after running for awhile. A friend who heard the start attempt said it sounded like the points were stuck. I was under the impression that with the electronic ignition that ignition points were not used. I tapped on the sides of the distributor with a pliers and the engine started. I have repeated the tapping a couple more times when it dit not start and it has then started. Two questions: Are there points? I can't find them listed anywhere in tune-up or replacement parts. Q-2: Any other ideas what might cause an intermittent hard start? Thanks.

Remove the distributor cap and inspect for loose connections. Its in there somewhere if it could fire up when tapped.
