My 98 Cadillac Deville stalled a few times during the last two - three weeks. This happened only when I got off from the highway. In each instance, I drove downhill by slowing down and made a complete stop at the stop sign. The engine stalled when I made a complete stop. What might be the cause?

Sounds like the T.C.C. (Torque Convertor Clutch) Solenoid is going on you. Simple test would be to drive around not exceeding 44MPH... Once you break 45-55MPH the car will stall when coming to a stop.

Suggested Repair

Test and likely replace the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid. Drive without exceeding 44 mph; if the stall only happens after reaching about 45-55 mph and then stopping, the TCC solenoid is the likely cause.

Conversation Summary

A 1998 Cadillac Deville stalled several times over two to three weeks only after leaving the highway, slowing downhill, and coming to a complete stop. An expert suspected a failing torque converter clutch solenoid and suggested a low-speed drive test: stay under 44 mph, then note whether the stall returns only after the car has reached 45-55 mph and is brought to a stop.
