How do you repair tie rods?

Hi there,

Tie rod ends are not repairable they must be replaced. To do this jack up car and secure on stands, remove front wheels, back off lock nut on shaft, remove split pin and undo nut, give the housing a sharp hit with a hammer to help crack the taper and drop out the tie rod end, unscrew and count the number of turns so the new one is fitted to the same position, do up lock nut ( don't forget to fit in thread before fitting) fit end and nut & always use a new split pin, fit wheels and get an alignment check done.
