I have heard of a product that you can put in coolant to detect combustion gases. Any help?

Yes there is a product you can buy, they should be found at local autopart stores, if not you can have them order it.

Was looking for product to detact combustion gases in coolant. I tried 4 auto parts stores they don't know. The last one suggested I go on the computer to find it. By the way it's a 57 Cad The scroll only went back to 59.

If you had a blown headgasket you would have white exhaust vapors, also notice low antifreeze levels. Also if you were to fill up the radiator to the top, and when it would no longer go down start it and bubbles were to appear you hvae a bad headgasket.

Clean out your radiator fins, they may be dirty. Also is your fan coming on? Or is the clutch bad on it.

I don't loose anti freeze, however I can't run engine long because it gets too hot. There is no fan clutch, I think 57 is pre fan clutch era. I ran a compression test but this proved to be inconclusive. Next thing I'm going to try is a pressure test at each cylinder. Right now water pump is off & apart & rad is out of car.
