Hi I have a '95 Buick Skylark. The drivers side window motor is shot and needs to be replaced. Wondering if it could be replaced with a motor from the rear window? If it can would it matter if the back window only goes down half way because of the child safety or does that not have anything to do with the motor itself?

No it is a different motor. I think that motor is made on the regulator and you must replace both. The other day I bought on at the "Zone" and the entire regulator and motor was cheaper than a motor alone about $125.00

Suggested Repair

Do not use the rear window motor. The driver motor is different and is built onto the regulator, so replace the motor and regulator together. A complete regulator and motor assembly can cost less than a motor alone, about $125.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1995 Buick Skylark asked whether a failed driver-side window motor could be replaced with a rear window motor and whether the rear window's child-safety half travel is related to the motor. The expert said the motors are different and that the motor is made with the regulator, so both should be replaced. A complete regulator and motor was cheaper than a motor alone, about $125.
