1994 Buick Skylark Hesitation

I inherited a 1994 buick skylark from my grandmother a few months ago with 45,000 miles on it. She had just had the belts and hoses replaced, and the car ran fine. In the past month, the car has begun hesitating at start-up, acting like it wants to stall whenever the accelerator is depressed. After a few seconds and the car gets up to speed, the problem goes away. It seems do this worse when cold, but has begun doing the same thing after it has warmed up. When it begins to do this, it helps to ease up on the accelerator and slowly press it through the hesitation cycle. Any ideas what it could be? Other than this problem, it's a great little car. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

Is the engine noisy when you start it when cold? Louder than usual ticking sound? My 97 Skylark does that presently and it hestitates and doesn't have much power. As soon as the car warms up and the temperature gauge is in the middle of Cold and Hot, the car works great. I don't have an answet yet either, just wondering if the symptoms were the same

Cheers

Neil

Check throttle body position sensor and fuel pressure. Probably one of the two or a combination of both are failing. Thinking the T.P.S. Is not reporting the proper status of the throttle gate or you may have a clogged fuel filter. Both are not too expensive to fix.

I just had the car checked out, and the problem was both the throttle position sensor and the mass airflow sensor. With these replaced, the car runs fine, but it cost $645.00 parts and labor.

Thanks for the information, it was appreciated.
