How do I know which engine mount is broken? Car failed inspection.

With the hood open, place the park brake on, keep your foot on the brake, place the vehicle in drive and push lightly on the gas. Do the same in reverse. THe engine will lift (more than an inch) if there is a broken mount. Also, you will be able to tell which is bad by when the engine lifts (driver or reverse). One side or the other will lift.
