On the top caliper bolt there is a silver cap that appears to be covering the bolt head with a rubber nipple coming out of the center. The bottom caliper bolt comes off fine, but I can't get the "cap" off to place the socket wrench with any ease. I can see the bolt portion under the rubber "bridge". Is there a way of getting that off without doing damage to the caliper bolt or system.

The top cap DOES NOT come off

remove the bottom bolt then pull the caliper out from the bottom to replace the brake pads.

Here is a guide to help you see how to do the job.

if your replacing the rotor also the whole bracket has to be removed just 2 more bolts.
