The VOLTS light came on intermittantly and then eventually went to solid. The alternator was replaced in 2000 and came with a life-time warranty. The GM dealership has replaced 3 alternators so far and each time after they replaced it the VOLTS light came back on. My regular mechanic feels its the alternator (these are rebuilt as you cannot get a new one for this age car). The GM dealership said it could be one of 3 wires connected to it and a friend said it could be a relay switch signaling the VOLTS light. My battery is brand-new (replace March 2007). I have not noticed any loss of power other than the VOLTS light coming off and on but as soon as the light comes on I jump on it and have it serviced. After 3 alternators, I
m ready to throw in the towel. Any suggestions? Thanks

Don't throw in the towel. It probably is the alternator and I would create a stink if they don't resolve this at no charge. There are some alternater brands that just plain suck regardless of the warranty.

Before taking it in have somone wiggle the connector and see if the light goes out or flickers. It may have a bad connector.
