My lesabre just had a synthetic oil change 1000 miles ago. It had making a grinding type noise in thengine and a strange noise out of the tailpipie when in park. And there is a strong smell of fuel in the oil, it runs fine upon starting but begins to bog after about 10 miles, what could it be? It has been suggested that the piston rings might be bad. I paid 1800 for the car, would it cost more to replace the rings than I paid for the car?

Hi:
It could be the rings (which I doubt) an intake gasket leak, or a problem with the fuel system. If the rings need replaced, it's time for an overhaul. If the oil was changed on a regular basis, your engine should go 200K+ before needing that type of attention.

Is the check engine light on? Also, with the engine running, remove the oil cap and see if there is smoke or a lot of pressure coming out of the valve cover.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
