The linkage came off on my driver door opening handle. I can roll down the window and open from outside. Do I need to pull the paneling off the door to fix this? No manual or schematic available.

thank you

My '87 driver door has the same problem. I tried to take the panel off and broke a clip right away. In another car I had this happen to, I took it to a shop and they fixed it for about $125. Expensive yes. But, now I can open the door from inside the car!

With plenty of time, patience and the right tools, you can fix it. Tools that help include a panel clip removal tool (the cheaper kind will do--a simple handle with an angled shank and fork at the end) a set of Allen wrenches with the right size for the side mirror adjuster housing, a small screwdriver to pry the door lock slider off its rod, and a drill and cold chisel to remove the rivets holding the handle onto the door frame in case, as is likely, you find you need to replace it (reattach it with nuts and bolts). That and a Phillips screwdriver.
