Break wear light

Hi my break wear light is on and my breaks sqeek a little but work fine I was wondering if brakes will fail or deteriorate gradually. I've been driving for month w/ no prob- however ESP light comes on and when it does the car shuts off
1st I need to save to fix brakes so I'm hoping they will just wear n not give out totally
2nd I'm hoping the brakes are the reason esp shuts car down can u tell me?

You are down to about 10% brake pad life, with these worn pads breaking efficiency is well down so I recommend getting them replaced ASAP, if you go metal to metal, and there will be no warning of this, you will do considerable damage to the brake rotors.
