This problem is on a 1999 GMC K2500 Suburban. I had the brake peddle go to the floor while driving. Then the steering got real hard as if the steering reservoir was out of fluid. The steering pump was whining like it was low or had an air lock. I bled all of that and finally, due to the mileage I got to the point that I just decided to replace it and I did. Now, that was about a month ago. I had some issues with hard steering in the morning. I had to rev it up a couple of time to get it to start turning easily. I thought that it was just because I had put some Lucas Power Steering fluid in it and it was too cold and just needed to start flowing. Anyway, last night the steering as I was driving it, the steering got progressively harder to steer. It's not as hard as if the pump went out completely but it's very difficult. Also while driving at different times the brake peddle may go all the way to the floor again but you just pump it once and it may not happen again for a week or so. Could it be the hydro-boost creating the problem?

Are you saying you replaced the power steering pump? If so, was it new or a remanufactured pump? If you have hydro boost then I would be looking into that. Check your power steering fluid level. Take off the master cylinder and look behind it inside the booster to see if it is leaking fluid.

Did you flush the system when you replaced the pump?
