I was driving on freeway after putting new battery terminals in yesterday. And my truck started bogging down and then the electronics in the car started cutting off and on. In parked now with the car off and now it just clicks and won't start. I also put a blemished battery in it a week ago.

Hi,

It sounds like either the new terminals are loose or not properly connected. Double check them. If you can get a pic of them for me to see, it may help me determine what may have happened.

Also, what do you mean by a blemished battery? If it isn't good, that could be a cause as well.

Try this. Load test the battery in the vehicle. Here is a link showing how that is done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-battery-load-test

and

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/engine-has-low-power-output

Also, keep in mind that even if the battery is good and the alternator isn't recharging it, this exact this same thing can happen. Here is a link that explains how to test an alternator. All you need is a volt meter of a multimeter.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-alternator

Let start with checking those three things, terminals, battery condition, and alternator output.

Do this and let me know what you find.

Joe

When driving it bogs down and I let off gas it levels out. Changed everything, TPS, MAP, fuel filter, etc, cap, rotor. I am stumped.

Check fuel pressure with a gauge auto parts rent it it may be low fuel pressure see our link on how to do it. you may need an adapter to do this. if no check engine light then that is what is may be.

I have this car, it does not work well, it gives me these three symptoms.
1- it can not take a higher speed, it remains on the first speed only.
2-in the wrong tracks the engine goes out.
3- During acceleration the engine will also switch off.

Thank you.

This vehicle has the OHV 12V engine.

Extended cab pickup two door.

Scan for codes and check fuel pressure with a gauge first auto parts rent it see if you have any codes or low fuel pressure. See link.

Check engine lights on, runs fine until it gets warmed up then it loses power and runs 30 mph. Replaced upstream o2 sensor, no change. Shows knock sensor and air flow sensor. Cleared codes check engine only light on now.

Hi Ronald,

Can you send me the specific codes that you are getting? If you are showing air flow sensor codes, that can cause this issue. Just let me know what they are and we can go from there. Thanks

Okay. If the engine runs fine until it gets warm, these two codes make sense. You are correct they are for the MAF and Ambient temp sensor.

To properly diagnose these codes, you need to test wiring, power, ground, and then the sensor.

If it were me, I would just replace both sensors. You are able to clean these but again, I would replace them and then clean the old ones in the event they ever fail again, you can try to swap them out.

Here is guide on how to clean the MAF. The ambient temp is done the same way.

I did attached a quick voltage check for the MAF. So if you want to check the voltage first that would be how to do it and what you should be seeing.

As for your issue, this would explain why your vehicle is running fine until it is warmed up. When the vehicle is warming up it is running off of a predetermined set of numbers. Once it is warm it starts reading the sensors and if they are wrong then it will cause the vehicle to run poorly.

When I come to a stop and then accelerate it is very slow and feels bogged down for the first few seconds but then returns to normal.

Ok, then I would start with a scan and see if there are any set fault codes, report any codes there for further assistance.

If no codes then nothing in engine management, you have to go looking at other items, may be transmission related, get a trans scan done and see if the TTC is staying in lock up. This is like trying to drive off in top gear.
