I purchased a salvaged replacement speedometer for my car on Ebay, mine has lost most of the pixels. After swapping is myself, I quickly found out installation wasn't that simple, the gauges wouldn't work. I took it to my dealer to re-program it for my car but was told they can only be programed once, and would only work in the original car. I see so many for sale online, just wondering if they told me the truth.

The instrument cluster is dedicated to that particular car when it is coded. The missing pixel thing is a typical failure item. As far as it not working at all is due to some other factor, typically the cluster will work from another car, but the manipulation dot will be illuminated.
