I just purchased a used 2005 530i and it did not have the dvd navigation installed. could i purchase a used dvd deck from a salvaged bmw and install into my car? Install the deck and connect what ever wire harness to the dvd deck and will it come on line OR is there more modules that must be installed?

There is a possibility, but you would need the wiring harness as well as several modules from a donor and the proprietary dealer software to complete the job. The navigation units available as add ons like Tom Tom or Garvin are a much less expensive alternative and you would not run the risk of causing damage to the vehicle.
